Pentagon Produces New Rules for Religious Exemptions

The Pentagon has established new rules to make religious exemption on things such as uniforms and grooming standards easier to obtain.  Prior to this decision, it was not clear who should make the decisions and when, ultimately, so this provides a force-wide approach to the question.  Requests that do not violate current service policy will be decided by the local commander.  Requests that do violate current service policy will be decided by the three-star personnel chief.  Of course, requests that interfere with safety or the mission will be denied.  I do not anticipate Orthodox Christian chaplains making said request for a beard, as it is not essential to the faith, even if traditional and typical, but if one wanted to do so, it would seem these new rules make it possible that the request might be granted.
