Restricting American Religious Freedom

It might seem odd to have such a title for a blog post in light of the recent flap over the fragment of papyrus that references a “wife” for Jesus.  After all, if such a likely forgery made that much news, religion must be alive and well in America, no?  Well, yes and no.  Americans certainly tend to participate in religion numbers but some recent trends concerning the extent of that participation are concerning.  Restrictions, based on religious reasons, has increased:

Now, if one reads the report carefully, one will note that it’s not only religious discrimination that is on the rise, but also religious hostilities, which includes violence done in the name of religion.  So, it is a bit of a two-way street, here, but the report does show, from what I can tell, that religious discrimination is the bigger factor and that should at least raise eyebrows.
